As noted earlier, Congressman Jim Gibbons helped author a pro-coal, pro-power-plant policy paper allowing Big coal burning power companies to release dangerous amounts of toxic Mercury. The Washington Post now reports that both the Pombo-Gibbons report and the EPA ignored an important [...] Congressmen Jim Gibbons and Richard Pombo have produced as part of their anti-enviromental program in the House Committee on Resources a misleading bit of pro-coal propaganda entitled "Mercury in Perspective: Fact and Fiction about the Debate Over Mercury" (pdf). According to the article "On Another Planet: The GOP’s science on mercury is out of this world." by [...] Chris Mooney, who did a piece about how the phrase ‘unsound science’ has been perverted in Washington these days, has been attacked by Congressmen Jim Gibbons and Chris Cannon using Cannon’s taxpayer financed website. The Gibbons-Cannon "response" is typical Gibbons propaganda-nonsense. No evidence is presented to support their claim that science has any part in Republican policy [...] Last year I noted how Jim Gibbons was trying to shut down the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) because it repeatedly points out that the multinational mining companies in Nevada are among the most irreponsible polluters on the planet. The EPA revised the way toxicity is measured and now, low and behold, the magic of Government-manipulated science gives [...] Congressman Jim Gibbons really put his foot in it this time.
