Newly hatched Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons is paying off his cronies with plum government jobs. Yeah, that is a strange practice for a so-called small-government Reaganaut, ain’t it?
Today Gibbons appointed banking industry lobbyist Mendy Elliot to head the Nevada Business and Industry Department. Elliot works for Wells Fargo bank and lobbied the Nevada Legislature for the [...]
The Editorial Bored of the Review Journal has started their New Year’s drinking early, it seems. They decided that the top news story for Nevada this year has something to do with Governor-elect Jim Gibbons, but have a bit of a problem saying what that story is.
They focus on the Mazzeo-scandal as the "top story" for [...]
The specifics of Jim’s Night Out with Chrissy Mazzeo became shrouded in an even thicker fog as more details of the police and D.A. investigations were released yesterday. After D.A. Mr. Roger decided to dump a hot-political-potato and not pursue charges of Gross Stupidity During A Molestation against the Gube-elect, we learn that both parties in [...]
If your literary tastes run in the direction of hagiography, then you’ll enjoy the piece about the new Gube over in Brian’s pape. You’ll learn that Gibbons "won the right to live in the Governor’s mansion." Well, yes, he did win the election. But it’s hardly a "right". Politicians serve at the pleasure of voters, after [...]
Now, that’s what was missing from those puff pieces about how wonderful the Gibbons’ transition teams are–snide remarks from CCSN Historian Michael Green.
Speaking of pieces, that’s what the Gibbons’ transition teams are falling to. Pieces. Donna Coleman, an advocate for children, and uncannily mentioned in a recent post, has left one of the many teams because [...]
Never in favor of pay as you go, almost-Governor Jim Gibbons has chosen to tap into the powers of magical thinking to fund state road projects. Gibbons has rejected recommendations from a state task force and still-Gube Kenny Guinn to pay for desperately needed road work with raises in gas taxes and driver’s license fees. (RJ)
Funny, [...]
CFGRJ reports the mystery of the missing tortoise is solved. Cactus Cate, a tortoise who went missing from her expensive habitat at the Clark County Government building, has turned up. She was spirited away from the habitat when said habitat was found to be, uh, uninhabitable.
One wag speculated about the disappearance: "The last time I saw [...]
The WSJ (subscription, drat) reports:
Nevada gubernatorial candidate Rep. Jim Gibbons asked
the House Ethics Committee for an opinion on whether he failed to
report a Caribbean cruise that was paid for by a military contractor
who is also a major donor to the congressman’s campaign.
Mr. Gibbons sought the panel’s advice after a page-one
article in The Wall Street Journal [...]
There is no point to this post except to get this silly pic off my [...]
So says Metro Lt. Greg McCurdy in an update of an earlier AP story. And, amazingly, so is Metro. Mazzeo and several officers walked through the garage Monday afternoon where the alleged Gib-groping took place. Currently the charge against Gibbons is misdemeanor battery.
And 11am tomorrow, Gibbons’ lawyers go to court trying to get the surveillance tapes [...]
