A Real Goofy Governor For a Real Goofy Nevada

Huh. I guess the Gube is giving up on that Back to 1864 thing. In his most recent campaign e-mail, he complains that Nevada’s current educational system was “structured” more than a 100 years ago. I suspect he meant “created” since the school system has in fact been changed many times over that period.

Funny too how he fails to note that his main contribution to the K-12 system in the state was to cut its funding.

Governor Jim’s News
The path to our children’s future should be guided by those who know them best.
As governor, I am committed to improving Nevada’s education system by empowering local control of our schools. Every candidate running for governor talks about reform, but I am fighting today for real change.
Right now we spend billions of tax dollars on an education system that was structured more than 100 years ago. Tax money that should go to schools and classrooms is sidetracked into a bureaucratic wasteland controlled by mandates from Washington DC, Carson City and unions. Over the last 100 years, society, technology and industry have dramatically changed. We need to modernize our K-12 and higher education systems to not only educate our children but to prepare them for life in the 21st century. The expectations and needs of Nevada industries have changed, and our education system must change with them.
The only sure path to economic recovery in Nevada is to partner education and industry so that from preschool to college we can align our education system with the needs of the current job market and the workforce of the future. To bring new businesses to Nevada, we need an education system which will provide the skilled and educated workforce those industries need. Education is the intellectual infrastructure of our future.
By encouraging more parental involvement and engaging incoming high school freshmen, we can direct children to the educational or career track that most interests them. This serves many purposes. First, keeping our children’s interest will increase our graduation rate and decrease our dropout rate. Second, engaging students in the appropriate college or career prep courses will prepare them for success after graduation, whether it is college, post-secondary education, or workforce entry.
Last month I created the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Education Reform Task Force. This panel of educators and business experts are working to transform Nevada’s education system to prepare graduates to be the intellectual infrastructure for the economic recovery which will bring prosperity back to Nevada.
Today, 23% of Nevada’s schools are designated as underachieving. We need to stop supporting systems that have failed our children for decades and commit to a bold path of reform. I will need your support to take this fight to the 2011 Legislative Session. Click Here To Make A Donation

  • Only in Nevada.
This person is bona fide proof that Nevada’s corrupt vote stealing video game computers… are “working”.

  • I am Gino DiSimone and I am running for Governor of Nevada ( Gibbons had 4yrs to do his stuff and he did it alright – Nevada dropped from ranking in the mid 40th to dead last. Good job Gibbons.

I have true educational reform. Our educational administration is top heavy. I will lean it out and roll things down to the teachers enabling them to teach. I have a $1BB revenue plan (no taxes and no federal borrowing!! all NV money by NV and for NV, to be release at a major fund raiser on May16; if you want to attend go to my website). With this money I will be enabled to do several things. Regarding education, I will remove NV from the federal system and the UN system (yes they are driving the IB program in our schools). NV will redefine our cirriculum (back to basics which worked!) reading, writing, math, science, history, geography and music for K-9 with music or vocational option for 10-12. I will eliminate the age-grade classification. I will eliminate the age-grade advancements. Grade advancements are only achieved by scholastic acumen. Parents will be required to attend school with their child 1day/month. Parents own the responsibilty of the childs education, the State owns facilitating it. Children of parents who are illegals or whose parents are not competent in the English languages are not allowed in public schools. There is much more on my website (download the media kit).

Yes, we need reform and I will bring it. Nevada will be the best education in the country and it will not take a task force or an overweight administration or a teachers union to do it. Parents will take their responsibility for their children’s education.
